Spring Road Race Results - April 13th 2008
3/4/j Event - 68km
With sunny skies and still conditions, the race had "bunch sprint" written all over it. Despite a few solo efforts, only one move managed look serious. Gaining around 30 seconds at its maximum, 2 riders got away, Luke Merrilees (Ingear RT) and Ben Wilson (private). However, the pair couldn't/wouldn't work to make good their advantage and it all came back with the race settled by a bunch sprint.
E/1/2/3 Event - 121km
Still conditions albeit with rain and hail showers meant that the race largely stayed together for 5 laps of the Milton circuit. An early 8-man break on the first lap was brought back, but this was countered when two riders - Wouter Sybrandy (agiskoviner.com) and Marcin Bialoblocki (Sports Bean - Wilier) went out front for almost 3 laps - but never getting more than 45 seconds on the bunch. This was brought back on the last lap and after the final ascent of Clare Hill, a useful group of 8 formed. Onto the A40 and the gap increasing, with 5km to go. Simon Brooks (VC St Raphael) went from this group for a long one at 2km. However, the lead group brought him back - from which five riders just held off the bunch, with Gary Dodd (Sigma/Specialized/Sportful) getting the sprint for the line. The ever active Bialoblocki got the bunch sprint for 6th.
